On Wednesday, February 11, Columbia County Sheriff's Office Deputies arrested two Alabama men on a host of charges following an altercation and vehicle pursuit.

On Wednesday, February 11, in a ceremony attended by family, friends and Sheriff's Office personnel, Sheriff Mark Hunter swore in Mr. Matthew Marzucco as a Deputy Sheriff.

On Monday, February 9, Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter recognized a local resident for his service to the Florida Sheriff's Association.

The preliminary examination by the medical examiner revealed no trauma to the body and cause of death has not been determined. The medical examiner is awaiting toxicology.

The decedent has been identified by fingerprints as Veronica Witcher 43, of Lake City. The cause of death is still undetermined pending examination by the medical examiner in Jacksonville Florida.

On Saturday, February 7 at 1:09 pm, Columbia County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to 187 NW Joland Way to investigate a possible homicide.

On Friday, January 16 in a ceremony attended by family, friends and Sheriff's Office personnel, Sheriff Mark Hunter promoted Corporal J.T. Williams to the rank of Sergeant and Deputy Sheriff Murray Smith to the rank of Corporal.
