On 2/25/12, Deputies Corporal Todd Lussier, Deputy Scott Busby and Deputy Joshua McCardle responded to a residence on N.W. Primitive Glen in reference to residential structure fire. The resident of the home is a paraplegic and confined to a wheel chair. He advised 911 operators his home was on fire, the ceiling was starting to cave in and he could not get out of the residence.
The deputies observed flames and thick smoke coming from the residence when they arrived. They were able to make entry into the home and found the resident waiting by the front door. The resident was removed by the deputies and safely located away from the home. The Columbia County Fire Dept was able to extinguish the fire. Lifeguard Ambulance Services treated the homeowner. The 3:00 pm. fire resulted in significant damage to the main living area, ceiling, attic and roof of the home.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office commends the actions of these deputies for putting the life and safety of the resident before their own. Without their quick action, the homeowner might have suffered significant injury as a result of the fire.
