The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is sad to report the death of one of our retired K-9’s. K-9 Deputy “Rek” passed away peacefully yesterday. Rek served with the CCSO from August of 2014 to October of 2020. During his career, Rek assisted in searching for and locating suspects, missing persons, and narcotics. Most of all, Rek was a loyal partner and companion to his handler, Corporal Matt Waddington. After his service to our community, Rek enjoyed his retirement, living with Corporal Waddington.
“Our K-9’s are a valuable part of our service to the community,” said Sheriff Hunter. “Rek was a shining example of that service. He will be missed, but he will also be remembered for being such a fine asset to our agency.”
Please join us in remembering and celebrating Rek’s life and service while we also keep Corporal Waddington in our thoughts and prayers.
