A Georgia man was sentenced to 30 years in prison Monday following an attempted murder that occurred in May of 2022.
On May 6, 2022, deputies responded to 214 SW Harlowe Place after a landlord requested a well-being check on a tenant. Upon arrival, deputies could see the victim through a window. The victim appeared to be covered in blood and in medical distress. Deputies made entry into the home and rendered aid until EMS transported the victim to the hospital. It was learned that the victim had been shot twice in the head.
Detectives who responded to the scene learned that the victim’s car was missing. Through further investigation, a person of interest was identified as Leslie Duguid (30) of Valdosta, Ga. Detectives located Duguid at his residence and conducted an interview with him. Duguid did not confess to shooting the victim. However, he admitted to taking the victim’s car from the scene and recently hiding a firearm. He led detectives to the location of both the vehicle and firearm. Digital and forensic examination, along with DNA evidence, was able to tie him to the crime. He was arrested and booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on May 17, 2022.
This past Monday, February 5, 2024, Duguid was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison for attempted second degree murder while armed.
“Exceptional investigative and forensics work were paramount in solving this case,” said Sheriff Mark Hunter. “I am proud of our team of well-trained professionals who remain committed to holding criminals, like Duguid, accountable for their actions. We hope this resolution helps to bring closure to the victim as they continue to heal from this incident.”
