On Friday October 6th, detectives with the Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force were conducting surveillance in the area of NE Escambia and NE Calhoun. They observed what appeared to be a drug transaction and made contact with a subject involved. As the subject walked away from his vehicle, he refused to stop for them and fled on foot a short distance until one of the detectives successfully deployed his taser. He was then detained without further incident. The subject was identified as Joseph McMullen.
McMullen had illegal drugs in his possession. He was also recently released from federal prison on drug-related charges and is currently on federal probation. After the arrest, a lawful search of his vehicle was conducted where additional drugs were found. Items located were Crack-Cocaine, Powder Cocaine, Alpha PvP, Marijuana, and $1,070.00 in U.S. currency.
“I am proud of these detectives for proactively combatting drugs in our community,” said Sheriff Mark Hunter. “We will stay in the fight and will continue to use our resources to help improve the quality of life for citizens who want to rid their neighborhoods of this activity.”
McMullen was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility for trafficking and other related charges associated with this incident.
