On June 29, 2022 at approximately 9:00am, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was assisting the Lake City Police Department in the execution of a search warrant near the intersection of NW Long Street and NW Fowler Avenue.
During the search warrant, a member of the CCSO SWAT team was injured. The deputy was injured during the deployment of a less lethal distraction device. He was transported to a trauma center for further treatment with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Sheriff Mark Hunter said, “We are praying for our deputy to make a full recovery and appreciate the cooperation of everyone who assisted in rendering immediate medical attention to him. This serves as a reminder of the dangers law enforcement face in an effort to keep our community safe. I would ask for our community to keep this deputy in your thoughts and prayers during his recovery.”
