On Wednesday, December 28, the Columbia County Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force served a search warrant at 112 SW Birch Glen in unincorporated Columbia County and concluded a lengthy narcotics investigation.
The investigation began nearly a year ago when a group of citizens alerted the Sheriff’s Office to suspicious activity at a home in their neighborhood. The Drug Task Force Detectives assumed the case believing illicit drugs were being sold out of the home. MJDTF Detectives worked for many months developing probable cause for a search warrant for the residence and vehicles parked at it.
On Tuesday evening, Brent Rummelt, 34, one of the home’s occupants was arrested following a traffic stop shortly after he left the residence and possessed illegal narcotics at the time. The search warrant on the home was executed the following day and an additional arrest was made.
Lena Rummelt, 42 was arrested after Detectives located approximately 7 grams of crystal meth in the home along with related drug paraphernalia. Two guns were also seized; a semi-automatic pistol and a short barreled pellet gun made to look like a shotgun.
Lena was arrested on one count of possession of a firearm in commission of a crime, one count of public order crimes (maintaining a house for drug activity), one count of possession of controlled substance, one count of possession of meth with intent to sale, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia with a total bond of $66,000. She was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility.
This investigation was part of the ongoing effort by the Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force to rid Columbia County of illegal drugs. The task force is comprised of law enforcement personnel from Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Lake City Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
