On Wednesday, November 9, in a ceremony attended by friends, family, and Sheriff’s Office personnel, Sheriff Mark Hunter presented four agency members with awards due to their outstanding achievements.
Sergeant Howard Bulthuis was awarded the Lifesaving Medal for his actions on October 27th, 2016 when he successfully resuscitated a toddler that had fallen into a pool and was no longer breathing. The child has made a full recovery and emergency medical personnel credited that to Sergeant Bulthuis’ timely and effective use of CPR.
Detectives Chris Parker, Marcello Mayo and Analyst Yvette Tyler were award the Commendation Medal and Certificate of Commendation, respectively for their actions in August 2016 as they investigated a string of burglaries that spanned five North Central Florida counties. Following the in-depth investigation, the suspect was located and arrested. The suspect was also identified as a suspect in violent crimes committed in neighboring states resulting in numerous crimes being solved due to the investigation and arrest.
“Each of these members did an outstanding job”, Sheriff Mark Hunter said. “Whether saving a life or taking a serious felon off our streets; their actions have made this community safer and we are proud of them”.
