On Thursday morning, July 7, Steven Shuman was captured in Folkston, Georgia.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office alerted Folkston Police that Shuman was possibly in their city based on the on-going investigation. Folkston Police also received a tip from a citizen that saw the news report on a local TV station.
Shuman was arrested at 156 A Cherry St, where he was found hiding in the closet of a camper. Also taken into custody was his girlfriend Sharon Bradley, 22 on a warrant out of Duval County.
Shuman will be charged with escape when returned to Columbia County. Charges of aiding the escape are expected on Bradley.
(Original) County Inmate Walks Off Work Crew
On Wednesday, July 6, a Columbia County Detention Facility inmate escaped while assigned to a work crew doing lawn maintenance at a county facility in the Fort White area.
Steven Swain Shuman, 22 walked off the work site around 11:10 am. He was one of three inmates working in that area. Once the supervising Detention Deputy discovered his absence, Patrol Deputies along with additional Detention Deputies responded to the area and set up a perimeter.
DOC canines were requested and attempted a track; however it is believed he left the area on foot then got into a prearranged vehicle. Detectives have assumed the investigation. It is suspected that he may be headed to Jacksonville where he lived with his wife prior to his incarceration.
Shuman was in the County Jail due to an arrest by Lake City Police on misdemeanor traffic, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and a felony warrant out of Duval County for forging a check.
