***Update***Detectives Investigate Shooting
On Thursday, April 14, Detectives arrested a White Springs man for his involvement in a shootout at Munchies Food Store a day earlier.
Darafael McKire, 29 of White Springs was released from the hospital Thursday morning and subsequently arrested on multiple charges in connection with the midday altercation. Investigators have also named the other subject that was injured as Ronyeah Wright, 21 of Lake City.
Detectives are continuing to piece together what took place moments before gunfire broke out, however it appears to be related to illegal drug activity.
Wright remains in a hospital in stable condition.
McKire was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on 2 counts of sell, manufacture, delivery, possession with the intent to sell of controlled substances $50,000 bond, 1 count of discharging a firearm in public $1000 bond, 1 count of aggravated battery $150,000 bond, and 1 count of shooting into an occupied dwelling, vehicle, or aircraft $50,000 bond.
The investigation continues.
(Original) Detectives Investigate Shooting
On Wednesday, April 13, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are investigating a shooting in the parking lot of Munchies Food Store at 1889 E Duval St in unincorporated Lake City.
The Combined Communication Center received a 911 call at 1109 AM reporting gunshots in the parking lot of the convenience store. Responding Deputies were advised the vehicles involved were red and black passenger cars. One of the responding Deputies saw a red car leaving the area and stopped it two blocks away. It was learned that one of the passengers in that car was suffering from a gunshot wound.
As Deputies and Detectives secured the scene, information was relayed that another gunshot victim had been driven to a local hospital in a black car.
The motivation for the shooting is not known at this time, however suspected narcotics were found on the ground near the shooting.
At this time, all persons involved are believed to be accounted for and no one is at large. The condition of the individuals with gunshots is unknown at the time of this release.
This is an active and on-going investigation.
