On Friday, August 21, Sheriff Mark Hunter presented a Detention Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office Commendation Medal for her actions on July 21, 2015 which thwarted the escape of a jail inmate.
Detention Deputy Mackenzie Guerra was tasked with transporting and monitoring an inmate that was going from the jail to a local hospital for treatment. Once they arrived at the hospital, the inmate, who was in a wheelchair, jumped up and ran away attempting to escape. Detention Deputy Guerra, the sole deputy on scene gave chase and after an intense struggle was able to secure the inmate as patrol deputies arrived.
“It’s always nice to recognize someone for doing a great job”, Sheriff Mark Hunter said. “Deputy Guerra’s quick actions are a testament to her abilities and training; I’m proud to have deputies of her caliber at the Sheriff’s Office”.
