On Monday, July 14, at 3:10 am, deputies and detectives with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office investigated a sexual battery on a child which led to the arrest of a Lake City man.
The investigation began when Lake City Medical Center notified the Combined Communication Center that they were treating a child suspected of being a victim of a sexual battery. Deputies responded, conducted the initial investigation and notified detectives, who responded.
It was learned that the parent had left the child in the care of an adult while at work and when the parent returned the child complained of an injury. The parent took the child to the hospital to be checked and it was revealed the injury was consistent with sexual abuse.
Detectives interviewed Bruce Henderson, 27 about the incident and subsequently arrested him.
Henderson was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on 1 count of Sexual Battery on a victim less than 12 years of age with a bond on $200,000.
Sheriff’s Office victim advocate is assisting the family and the Child Protection Team working with the detectives as the investigation continues.
