On Wednesday, June 18 in a ceremony attended by Sheriff’s Office personnel, Sheriff Mark Hunter swore in a new member. Mr. James Stuhr was sworn in as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Reserve Program was formed for the purpose of augmenting and supporting the Sheriff’s Office operational and administrative efforts. This force multiplier provides additional personnel without the cost normally associated with hiring more deputies.
A Reserve Deputy is a fully trained and state certified law enforcement member that volunteers and works on a part time basis. They are local and respond quickly for call-outs during emergencies. They assist in crowd control during major public events, respond during specified disasters and provide backup services at all levels, as needed.
