At 5:14 p.m., the Columbia County Combined Communication Center received a 911 call from Columbia Correctional Institution (CCI) in reference to two inmates being stabbed. 911 Center subsequently notified the Sheriff’s Office Watch Commander of the incident.
Deputies were dispatched to CCI to assist if needed. While en route, CCI updated the 911 Center that the injured inmates appeared to have been shot and not stabbed. When the deputies arrived, they provided assistance to CCI by setting up an ID check point on the road leading into the facility due to it being in lock down. Additional deputies conducted a check of the surrounding area. Deputies were told by CCI personnel that an incident occurred and the investigation is ongoing.
No suspect information has been released at this time.
The investigation continues and is under the direction of CCI and the Florida Department of Corrections.
