On Monday, January 6th, 2014, at 4:10 a.m., Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a house fire at 484 SE Alfred Markham Street. When deputies and Columbia County Fire Department arrived, the home was fully involved. FD personnel extinguished the fire and reported they had discovered what is believed to be human and animal remains inside the home.
Detectives were called to the scene and will conduct a joint investigation with the State Fire Marshall. The source of the fire has yet to be determined and no evidence to suggest foul play has been discovered. The identity of the victim will be released once it is determined and next of kin has been notified.
