On Thursday, October 17, 2013, at 12:11a.m., Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a fight in progress at 767 NW Amanda Street, Lot # 4. Upon arrival Deputies found Deeante Gibson lying on the ground unresponsive with several stab wounds to the upper torso. Columbia County EMS responded to the scene and transported Deeante Gibson to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Further investigation revealed that there had been a birthday party earlier in the evening at the mobile home and several individuals remained into the late night hours of Wednesday, October 16, 2013. At approximately Midnight, a verbal altercation took place between Julie Jones and Sidney Gibson. As Julie and her son Travon were returning to their home in the park, they were followed by Sidney and Deeante Gibson. While returning to their home the verbal altercation continued and Sidney punched Julie in the face. Travon Jones attempted to assist his mother, but was attacked by Deeante Gibson and knocked to the ground. During the physical altercation, Deeante got on top of Travon and began to strike him. At that time Travon retrieved a pocket knife from his pants pocket and stabbed Deeante several times in the upper torso area. Shortly Thereafter, Julie and Travon retreated into their home. As CCSO Detective Division conducted the investigation, The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and their Crime Scene, as well as the State Attorney’s Office Investigators were contacted and requested to assist in this investigation.
At this point, the case is being reviewed by the State Attorney’s Office for additional charges.
