On Monday, November 12, 2012, a Columbia County man was arrested after an early morning standoff.
At approximately 2:30 am, Columbia County Sheriff Office deputies responded to 338 NE Menlo Gln in reference to a domestic disturbance. When deputies arrived at the home, the suspect was armed with a shotgun and threatened to shoot the deputies.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Crisis Negotiation Unit were called to the scene. Several homes near the suspect’s residence were evacuated for precautionary measures.
Detectives with the Crisis Negotiation Unit spoke with the suspect for several hours and were able to convince the suspect to exit the house unarmed. The suspect was taken into custody after a brief scuffle with deputies. He was transported and booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility.
No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. Residents were allowed to return to their homes at approximately 6:00 am, shortly after the suspect was arrested.
