On Tuesday, November 6, 2012, a Columbia County man was arrested following an undercover operation conducted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
In October of 2012, the suspect began cellular phone texting an 11 year old girl with sexually explicit messages. Detective Katina Dicks assumed the investigation and began to communicate with the suspect via cell phone texting and social media outlets. Detective Dicks was posing as the 11 year old girl.
For several weeks, the suspect communicated with Detective Dicks with sexually explicit conversations, still assuming that he was communicating with an 11 year old girl. The suspect reached a point that he wanted to meet the 11 year old girl in person for the purpose of engaging in sexual acts. On November 6, 2012, Detective Dicks agreed to meet the suspect at the Columbia County Library. Detectives observed the suspect at the library, actively texting Detective Dicks, telling her that he was there and waiting for her.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody without incident and transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility.
