On Thursday, September 6, 2012, at approximately 7:40 pm, a Columbia County man was arrested on multiple charges following a shooting incident at his home. Deputies responded to a residence off N.W. Falling Creek Rd. to investigate a reported home invasion and shooting. The complainant reported to Deputies that an unknown male suspect entered his home in an attempted burglary and shot him in the face.
Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies examined the crime scene extensively and were concerned that the evidence did not corroborate the complainant’s account. Deputies interviewed witnesses at the scene and were able to piece together a timeline of events.
The complainant was allegedly arguing with his spouse inside the home. The complainant’s daughter attempted to intervene and stop the verbal altercation. The complainant allegedly stood from a seated position, approached his daughter and struck her in the side of the head with a handgun that he was holding. Feeling physically threatened, she armed herself with a small handgun that was on a table in the home. Knowing that her father was also armed and had already battered her, she fired one shot, striking him in the face. The daughter fled the home while her father fired several rounds from his handgun at her from inside the home.
Lifeguard Ambulance Services treated the suspect at the scene and he was later treated at a local medical facility for non life threatening injuries. A .45 caliber handgun and a .38 caliber handgun were recovered at the scene. Following an interview at the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Edward Frank Hardy was arrested and transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility.
