On Tuesday, August 21, 2012, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Deputies captured a burglary suspect after a lengthy search.
Deputies began an investigation into a burglary that occurred to a commercial business on August 20, 2012. In that burglary, several vehicle batteries were stolen. It was determined that the suspect, Cody Dover, had sold some of the batteries to a local secondary recycling business. Based upon that information, Deputies began searching for Mr. Dover.
At approximately 4:00 pm, a vehicle known to be used by Dover, was located at the intersection of NW Taft and NW Cheswick St. Deputies learned by a passenger in the vehicle that Dover had fled the area on foot.
Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies established a perimeter in the area as they searched for Dover. CCSO K-9 units and K-9 units from the Florida Department of Corrections tracked Dover for over 6 hours in the area of CR 25A and U.S. 41 North. At approximately 10:20 p.m., Dover was located in a wooded area off US 41 North. Dover was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility.
Dover is facing charges of Dealing in Stolen Property. Additional charges on Dover are likely as the investigation moves forward.
