On 04/13/2012 the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation of a residential burglary on S.E. Lanvale Street. While investigating this burglary, more residential burglaries occurred in the area. Detectives with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office noted similarities in the burglaries, including general area, method of entry, time of day, and items stolen.
Detectives Jimmy Watson and John Hatcher were assigned to investigate the burglary cases. During their investigation they developed information that some of the stolen property had been sold in Gainesville. Detectives with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office assisted CCSO in obtaining this information. The investigation in Alachua County led to the identification of a group of suspects local to the area of the burglaries in Columbia County.
On 04/30/2012 Detective Glen Wyche was patrolling in the area of Country Club Road and responded to a call for a burglary that had just occurred on S.E. Olustee Terrace. Detective Wyche saw citizens following a male that was running from the location. Detective Wyche was able to detain the suspect, identified as Jordan Shuler. Shuler had previously been identified as a suspect in the other burglaries. Shuler was one of two individuals who had sold stolen jewelry from the burglaries.
A second suspect was located by Detective Watson and Deputy Slade McCardle hiding in a nearby residence. This suspect was identified as Raul Alex Joglar. These two suspects were linked to the burglary on S.E. Olustee Terrace based upon witness descriptions and evidence from the crime scene. A thorough investigation by CCSO detectives led to the identification of four other suspects in these burglaries. Additional arrests and/or charges are possible as the investigation moves forward. To date six individuals have been arrested in connection with these series of burglaries.
Six residential burglaries have been solved as a result of this investigation. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Detective Jimmy Watson or Detective J. Hatcher at CCSO Investigations, 758-1095. Citizens may also call Crime Stoppers of Columbia County at 386.754.7099. Callers to Crime Stoppers will always remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
The successful investigation of these cases was a result of CCSO Patrol deputies and CCSO Detectives working together. Lake City Police Department Investigators also provided information that helped identify one of the suspects. The assistance of the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office provided essential information that helped CCSO solve so many cases in a short period of time.
