On Monday, September 19, 2011, a 13 year old child was mauled by a dog. The child received serious injuries that required surgery. It was originally reported to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office that the aggressive dog was unknown to the victim and could not be located.
Deputy Scott Ceckanowicz continued his on Tuesday, September 20, 2011.The investigation led to the arrest of two people. Deputy Ceckanowicz discovered that the child was not attacked by a stray dog in the yard as originally reported.
The 13 year old victim was in the home belonging to the mother of his father’s girlfriend. Debra Crisp, the mother of Ernie Hodson Sr’s girlfriend, was babysitting the 13 year old boy. The home is located across the street from the Hodson residence. The child was attacked while in the kitchen of the home. For unknown reasons, the family pit bull, named Marley, attacked the victim. Debra Crisp and her mother, Josephine Robson, removed the victim from the kitchen and took him onto the front porch of the home. The child was then transported to a local hospital by Debra Crisp and her daughter Kathy Thomas. The child was eventually life flighted to Shands of Gainesville.
Debra Crisp stated to Deputy Ceckanowicz that she originally lied about what happened because she was afraid that she would get in trouble since she was babysitting and felt responsible. Josephine Robson stated to Deputy Ceckanowicz that she lied to protect her daughter Debra. Both were arrested without incident and booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility. The pit bull was taken into custody by Animal Control.
