On Wednesday, August 17, 2011, a Columbia County man was arrested for allegedly stealing a motor vehicle and selling it for scrap. Detective Calvin Fenner of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation in early August in reference to several thefts from a home in Columbia County. Detective Fenner determined that the suspect unlawfully removed a 1990 Cadillac from the victim’s property and subsequently sold the vehicle for scrap at a local metals recycling center. Additional property was discovered stolen and was recovered by the Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect, Lincoln Olson, turned himself in to the Columbia County Detention Facility after an arrest warrant had been issued. He was released on $5,000.00 bond. Mr. Olson was a volunteer with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Service Unit. The Sheriff’s Office immediately suspended Mr. Olson when the allegations of misconduct surfaced. Upon his arrest, Mr. Olson was permanently removed from the volunteer program.
It is the hope of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office that the arrest of Mr. Olson will not cast a negative light on the CCSO Citizens Volunteer Unit. The CSU volunteers are an exceptional group of men and women who provide a valuable service to the citizens of Columbia County.
Detective Fenner determined that the stolen 1990 Cadillac had been reduced to scrap and could not be recovered. A stolen 4×6′ trailer and two plastic children’s playhouses were recovered by the Sheriff’s Office.
