On Tuesday, June 14, 2011, a suspect in a Highlands County (FL) murder was arrested by Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Sgt Jeff Watson of CCSO was contacted by Detectives with the Highland County Sheriff’s Office. They were seeking Prentiss T. Legree and had an active arrest warrant for murder. Highlands County Detectives believed that Legree was in the Columbia County area, possibly traveling with migrant farm workers. Sgt Watson began an immediate search of local hotels.
Sgt Watson’s search efforts paid off and Legree was located at the Scottish Inn on U.S. 90 West. Legree was discovered in one of the rooms and was arrested without incident. The Lake City Police Dept assisted CCSO Deputies in taking Legree into custody. Legree was transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility and booked on the active warrant. Legree will be transported back to Highlands County in the coming days.
