On Saturday, May 21, 2011, a Lake City man was arrested by Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputies following a pursuit.
At approximately 8:45 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Danny Brown was dispatched to the Fast Track convenience store on U.S. 90 West. The complainant advised Deputy Brown that someone had just stolen his 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. Deputy Brown immediately broadcasted the vehicle description to other CCSO units.
Lieutenant Pete Spurlock was patrolling the area of County Rd 242 when he passed the stolen truck. Lt. Spurlock turned around and got behind the stolen truck as it was driven on CR 133B. Additional CCSO patrol units were enroute to assist Lt. Spurlock. Spurlock attempted to initiate a traffic stop of the stolen truck at the intersection of CR 133B and CR 133. The driver of the stolen vehicle refused to stop and reached speeds up to 85 mph while attempting to elude CCSO units. Lt. Spurlock was able to perform a Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT) on the stolen truck. The stolen vehicle was stopped on CR 133B. The driver of the stolen truck attempted to flee on foot once the vehicle was stopped.
Deputy Sheriff Will Porter and Deputy Scott Ceckanowicz pursued the suspect on foot through an open field off CR 133. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The victim’s truck and one CCSO patrol vehicle received minor damage as a result of the pursuit. No injuries were reported.
