On Monday, May 23, 2011, a man was arrested by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office following a narcotics investigation.
Deputy James Finnell, the School Resource Officer at Lake City Middle School, discovered several marijuana plants that were growing in a wooded area on school property. It was obvious that the marijuana plants were being cared for by an unknown person. Deputy Finnell worked closely with detectives of the Columbia County Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force to determine who was responsible for the illegal cultivation of the marijuana.
Detectives were able to use surveillance techniques that led to the discovery of the suspect. Damon Crosby was apprehended, on 5/23/2011, as he actively cared for the plants. Crosby was arrested without incident and booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility.
The nine (9) marijuana plants ranged from 1 foot to 2.5 feet in height. The estimated value of the plants is in excess of $5,000.00.
