On Sunday, August 2, 2010, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Deputies initiated a homicide investigation. At approximately 8:40 p.m,, Deputies arrived at 2204 S.W. Jim Witt Rd, Lake City, FL, in response to a 911 call. Deputy Brian Rix was the first Deputy on scene and learned that the suspect had entered the home and shot his wife and then himself.
Detectives assigned to this investigation have determined that William “Chuck” Wood (44) and his wife, Jodi Wood( 41), have been separated and living apart. Mrs. Wood was at home with their three children when Mr. Wood arrived unannounced. Mr. Wood was armed with a firearm. The teenage daughter of the Woods’ attempted to stop Mr. Wood from harming her mother. Mrs. Wood attempted to distance herself from Mr. Wood but he pursued her into the garage of the home. Once in the garage, Mr. Wood shot Jodi Wood to death and then turned the gun on himself. Both persons were deceased upon arrival of law enforcement.
The children were not harmed during this tragic incident and fled the home to await law enforcement. The victim advocate with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was on scene to assist the family with their needs.
