On Saturday, April 24, 2010, an employee of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was arrested after a warrant was issued for her arrest.
An arrest warrant for Pamela M. Foxx, for 1st degree Grand Theft, was issued by the 3rd Circuit State Attorney’s Office and was served by Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputies. Ms. Foxx was arrested at her home at approximately 4:30 p.m. She was taken into custody without incident.
The arrest of Ms. Foxx was the culmination of an extensive investigation into allegations that she misappropriated funds from CCSO. Ms. Foxx was employed by the Sheriff’s Office as a legal assistant. This investigation began on April 12, 2010 after an employee noticed discrepancies in a money transfer. The Office of the Comptroller was notified that funds were unaccounted for. Sheriff Mark Hunter assigned two detectives to conduct an in depth audit of the accounts that Ms. Foxx had access. Detectives verified that a large amount of money was unaccounted for.
Detectives conducted an interview with Ms. Foxx and she admitted to taking funds she had access to and deposited them into her personal bank account. This pattern of theft occurred over a 3 year period, starting in 2007. Detectives estimate Ms. Foxx allegedly misappropriated over $100,000.00 over this three year period.
“The charge against Pamela Foxx is not a reflection of the employees of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, says Sheriff Mark Hunter. “This was an isolated incident. The public can be assured that their Sheriff’s Office is staffed by the highest caliber of people who do a great job day in and day out. Although we are all saddened by this case, we are treating this like any other criminal investigation”. “The business practices that have been put in place as a result of this incident will ensure that this situation cannot be repeated. All of our employees are held to a high standard and I am proud of their actions that brought this matter to light. Through their efforts, we will continue to earn the respect and trust of our community”.
Pamela M. Foxx has been employed with the Columbia County Sheriff’s for 15 years. In August of 2003, Ms. Foxx was assigned as a legal assistant at the Sheriff’s Office and became a paralegal in 2005. Ms. Foxx is currently on administrative leave without pay. A final determination on her employment status will be made in the coming days.
