The man wanted for strong armed robbery of the Spires Grocery store last week has been identified. Sidney Ollie Gibson is currently in custody in Hamilton County, FL.
On 2/2//2010 at approximately 8:00 p.m., a robbery by sudden snatching occurred at a Dollar General store in White Springs, FL. The suspect matched the description of the man who robbed Spires a few days earlier. The suspect fled the Dollar General in a silver Chevrolet Cobalt. The suspect was also wearing similar clothing from the Spires robbery. Following the robbery at Dollar General, Sgt Timothy Morgan of CCSO observed the Cobalt on C.R. 246 in Columbia County. The vehicle had previously been reported stolen by the Lake City Police Department. Mr. Gibson was not present in the vehicle and a search began for him.
On February 28, 2010, Detective Todd Lussier of CCSO was notified by the White Springs Police Department that Mr. Gibson was in custody at their station. Detective Lussier interviewed Mr. Gibson and a female acquaintance of his. Detective Lussier was able to gather enough evidence to charge Sydney Gibson for Robbery by Sudden Snatching at Spires.
Mr. Gibson is also a suspect in robberies of the same type in Lake City and Suwannee County. Gibson is currently being held in the Hamilton County Jail on charges from the robbery at the Dollar General in White Springs. An arrest warrant has been sought by Detective Lussier for the arrest of Mr. Gibson for the Spires case. Once released from the Hamilton County Jail, Mr. Gibson will be transferred to Columbia County to face charges.
