On Thursday, February 25, 2010, Detectives with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged a local man with multiple counts of forgery and grand theft.
Deputy Sheriff Greg Williams received a complaint from the owners of Quality Industries of America (3632 U.S. 90 East Lake City, FL) after they discovered that multiple business checks were written and cashed without permission by an employee. Deputy Williams notified the Detective Division and an investigation was initiated.
Detective Todd Lussier made contact with the suspect, James Michael Robertson, at the business and transported him to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office for an interview. Detective Lussier was able to determine that Mr. Robertson was employed in a clerical position at Q.I.A. Mr. Robertson had access to the business checks. Since November of 2009, Mr. Robertson wrote over $48,000.00 in checks to himself and friends. Mr. Robertson then used the money to sustain a prescription narcotic habit.
James Michael Robertson was arrested without incident and transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility. Mr. Robertson is charged with 41 counts of Uttering a Forgery and 40 counts of Grand Theft. He is being held at CCDF on $50,000.00 bond.
