The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Columbia County juveniles for armed robbery, kidnapping and grand theft on July 21, 2009. The City Discount Liquor Store, 327 S.W. C.R 242, Lake City, FL, was robbed on July 20, 2009 at approximately 9:50 p.m.
Two male subjects entered the liquor store, one brandishing a handgun. The suspects stole money from the register, stole lottery tickets, cigarettes and bottles of wine. The suspects then blindfolded the clerk and forced him into his vehicle and drove off. The clerk was held against his will for over an hour before being let go. The clerk made his way back to the store and called 911.
Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Detectives conducted a canvass of the area where the clerk was released. Two juveniles were found riding their bikes on Dockery Lane. Lt. Joe Lucas interviewed both juveniles and they both subsequently confessed to the crimes. A 9mm handgun along with some of the cash stolen from the store was recovered in the area where the two juveniles were stopped. Additionally, the stolen lottery tickets, cigarettes and bottles of wine were recovered from one of the juvenile’s bedroom by Deputy Ray Metrick.
Detectives believe that the suspects spent some of the stolen money before they were captured and only a portion has been recovered.
Both suspects were transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility without incident. They were released to the FL Dept of Juvenile Justice and transported to Gainesville, FL.
