Patrol

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division is considered to be the backbone of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office as it is not only the largest division within the Sheriff’s Office, but it is also the most visible. The Division is comprised of multiple shifts broken into Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta. The School Resource Deputies are part of Patrol as well as several specialized teams serving in the capacities of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Dive, Marine, Negotiations, Training and K-9.

Criminal Investigations

The Mission Statement of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is to provide the highest quality criminal investigative support to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office by conducting timely and thorough criminal investigations. Motivated only by a search for the truth, CID Detectives will search out and collect all available evidence surrounding each case to exonerate the innocent and substantiate the culpability of the guilty.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is comprised of multiple units that assist local, state and federal government agencies by collecting, analyzing, and disseminating criminal intelligence information throughout the state and nation to support criminal investigations.

Judicial Services

The Judicial Services Division encompasses court security and the civil section. The bailiffs ensure the safety of all personnel at the courthouse and work closely with the Judges to maintain proper decorum in the court proceedings. The civil deputies and the clerks facilitate the service of civil process.

The Judicial Division includes the Court Security Deputies and Civil Process Deputies and the Civil Clerks.

The Court Security Deputies strive to provide a high degree of courteous and professional security to all persons whether involved in or just visiting the Judicial System within Columbia County. The Court Deputies are charged with maintaining proper courtroom decorum and procedure during the various proceedings coming before seven Judges (2 County, 5 3rd Circuit), one General Magistrate and three Hearing Officers (Traffic/Child Support/County Code Enforcement) currently assigned to Columbia County. This includes assisting with the safety of judicial personnel, assistants, courthouse facility personnel along with the general public.

No Weapons of any type are allowed to be in the Columbia County Courthouse. Each visitor is screened through a comprehensive security station upon entry within. Anyone carrying a firearm into the Courthouse will be arrested per Florida State Statute 790.06 (12).

Detention

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Detention Division is the second largest Division in the Sheriff’s Office and serves the public safety interests of Columbia County. The Columbia County Detention Facility is responsible for the intake, housing, care, custody and control of citizens who are arrested by law enforcement. The Detention Facility staff works hand in hand with the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, Lake City Police Department and other area Law Enforcement agencies serving the citizens of Columbia County. Detention Facility staff personnel also work very closely with the Columbia County Courts, State Attorney’s Office and the Public Defender’s Office.

Phone, Email and Video Visits are all managed by Smart Communications. Family and friends may go to
www.SmartInmate.com to create an account. Each inmate has a tablet assigned to them so they can
communicate with their loved ones and friends by means of conducting video visits, email, make and
receive phone calls, text, and entertainment such as music, movies, ebooks and have access to
educational training. It also allows them to communicate with their attorneys via tablet without
delay.
All payments and on-site or remote visit scheduling will be handled through the website. There are
different options to allow you to pay for inmate phone calls in advance and stay connected. Once
you have registered, you can start purchasing PrePaid Collect Deposit or a Debit Account Deposit.
The website is easy to navigate and has many support options to answer questions like, how to
create an
account and add money on an inmate’s account.

The Finance Division’s major areas of responsibility include budget management, payroll, purchasing, assets, and financial reporting.

Human Resources

Serving as a strategic part of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the mission of the Human Resources Division is to provide quality human resource services to attract, develop, motivate and retain a diverse workforce within a supportive work environment.
