On Friday, October 10, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputies visited the 5th grade students at Columbia City Elementary School to teach about the dangers of drugs.

The 30 minute program given to over 90 students in two sessions had a simple yet effective message. “Respect yourself” and “Say No to Drugs”. Corporal Clint Dicks and Deputy Jimmy Finnell spoke to the students and shared videos illustrating the dangers of not only illegal drugs but also misuse of prescription medication.

The principal, Ms. Hope Jernigan invited the Sheriff’s Office to give the program in order to educate and prepare the students as they move beyond elementary school.

Sheriff Mark Hunter commented “This program and others like it are our first line of defense in the war on drugs.”
