On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, Sheriff Hunter held an awards ceremony for seven employees. Members of the Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force were presented with the “Sheriff’s Commendation” for their work in a drug overdose death investigation. The investigation began in August of 2020 when deputies responded to a death. It was suspected that the death was the result of a drug overdose. After an extensive investigation, three suspects were identified and prosecuted. This was a landmark case as it was the first of its kind in our circuit which resulted in a successful prosecution for murder relating to a drug overdose. The names and photographs of the employees involved are not being released as some still work in an undercover capacity. We would like to congratulate all of these recipients on their well-deserved recognition.
