Sheriff Hunter would like to commend members of the Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force for their continued efforts in combatting illegal narcotics in our community. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida recently announced a guilty plea entered by a local drug supplier.
Austin Harper (26) of Lake City, pleaded guilty in federal court to distribution of methamphetamine. The investigation began in September of 2021 and consisted of undercover operations and cooperation between multiple agencies.
“This is another example of a successful outcome to an extensive investigation,” Sheriff Mark Hunter stated. “We understand the desire for swift accountability, but the reality is that some of these cases take time to see through. Although they can be lengthy and exhausting, we will remain steadfast in working with our local, state, and federal partners to ensure that these individuals are brought to justice, no matter how long it takes.”
Harper has not yet been sentenced, but faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison.
