The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of a shooting suspect in connection with a 2021 homicide.
On Tuesday, February 2, 2021, shortly after 5:00pm, deputies responded to the intersection of SE Lochlynn Ter. and SE Putnam St. in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located two 17-year-olds who had been shot. One of the teens, Dionne Leslie (17) succumbed to his injuries.
Investigation has been on-going since then and as a result, Brandon Hopkins (18), of Lake City has been charged with homicide in Leslie’s death.
“This is bittersweet for us,” said Sheriff Mark Hunter. “We are pleased to bring closure to a victim’s family, but we understand that nothing will bring back their loved one. We will continue to work with the State Attorney’s Office to make sure this suspect is held accountable for his actions.”
Hopkins was already in custody at the Columbia County Detention Facility on un-related charges. He was booked for the charges related to this case on April 26, 2023.
