On March 7, 2023, Christopher Jones was sentenced to life in prison following a conviction for his role in supplying illegal narcotics which resulted in the death of a female back in August of 2020.
On August 14, 2020, deputies responded to a residence in Columbia County for a female who was unresponsive. The female was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Preliminary investigation revealed signs of a possible overdose. That incident led CCSO detectives on an investigation which lasted nearly a year. Detectives with the Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force worked in conjunction with our state and federal law enforcement partners. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Christopher Jones and Rosandra Crusaw in July of 2021. Both Jones and Crusaw are from Lake City.
“This is a landmark conviction in our area,” Sheriff Mark Hunter said in a statement. “Mr. Jones will spend the rest of his life in prison and will no longer be able to cause harm in our community. I commend our detectives and law enforcement partners who stayed the course during this complex investigation as well as our State Attorney’s Office who pursued justice on behalf of the victim and her family in this case.”
In recent years, legislation in Florida was enacted which allows law enforcement to criminally charge suppliers of drugs in cases that result in someone’s death. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office will continue to enforce this when applicable.
