The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is still actively investigating the discovery of human remains which were found late yesterday afternoon in a wooded area along SE County Line Road near Baker County.
On Monday, September 19th at approximately 4:15pm, someone who had been walking in the area called to report finding human remains. Deputies responded and confirmed the discovery of suspected human skeletal remains. The scene was held overnight for the investigation to continue this morning. Detectives conducted a grid search of the area and utilized the agency’s drone in the search process. Skeletal remains were discovered during the search.
The scene will remain secured throughout this evening, as cadaver K9’s from Ocala will be utilized to assist in the search tomorrow. Once the scene has been completely processed, detectives will work together with other experts to attempt identification and determine a cause of death.
