The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has received calls concerning recent COVID-19 cases at the Columbia County Detention Facility. We wanted to reassure the public that we are taking precautions to prevent the spread of the virus within the facility.
The following measures have been implemented:
Anyone gained into the facility is screened upon arrival.
Regularly cleaning and disinfection protocols are being followed.
Mask protocols are being followed and are being provided to inmates and staff.
CDC guidelines are being followed and we are maintaining regular contact with local health officials.
Anyone displaying symptoms is being given a rapid test, followed by a secondary test through the health department.
Any inmate who tests positive is quarantined and regularly evaluated by medical staff.
Sheriff Hunter stated, “We understand the concern for our inmate population and staff at the detention facility. We are closely monitoring the situation and are following recommendations from health officials to ensure we are providing the safest environment possible to those in our care and custody.”
