After a 34 year law enforcement career, Chief Deputy, Major Joe Lucas, retired from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
A retirement ceremony was held on April 30, 2021 at the Sheriff’s Office Operations Center. The ceremony was attended by many friends, co-workers, and family. During the ceremony, Sheriff Mark Hunter promoted Major Lucas to the rank of Colonel. Afterwards, Sheriff Hunter presented Colonel Lucas with his badge, retired employee identification, and firearm.
Sheriff Hunter stated, “Through his leadership, Joe helped prepare the Sheriff’s Office for future success and he will be missed.”
