On Thursday, October 5, Sheriffs from Florida’s district 5 gathered as Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter, the current vice president of the Florida Sheriffs Association awarded Florida Senator Rob Bradley the “Friend of the Sheriff” award.
In the ceremony at the Columbia County Sheriff’s Operation Center, Senator Bradley was praised for supporting drug control legislation to address Florida’s heroin/Fentanyl epidemic.
The plaque stated “During the last day of the session, you were the deciding vote in approving the motion to recede from a problematic amendment that would have caused HB 477 to fail. Sheriffs appreciate your dedication to ensuring this important bill passed during the 2017 session”.
“Florida Sheriffs work hand in hand with legislators to protect our citizens. ” Sheriff Mark Hunter explains, “It makes perfect sense that the ones tasked with enforcing the laws are able to give input to those who make the laws. We greatly appreciate the working relationship and access the Sheriffs have to the state legislators.”
