On Thursday, December 15, an off duty Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Detective spotted a wanted felon in the Lake City Mall and called for additional resources.
Shortly before 4 P.M. Detective Sergeant Don Meyer was off for the day doing some Christmas shopping at the Lake City Mall. As he walked the mall interior, he saw someone he had never met, but that he quickly recognized, a wanted subject, Terrance Davis, 29.
Sergeant Meyer recognized Davis from a wanted bulletin that the FBI had sent out Thursday morning alerting the Sheriff’s Office to be on the lookout for Davis because he was wanted for murder in Las Vegas.
The FBI, who had agents actively searching for Davis believed he was possibly in the Lake City area and had coordinated with local law enforcement. The bulletin stated Davis was “armed and dangerous” and gave a description of the suspect and automobile he may be driving.
Sergeant Meyer covertly called more detectives and requested undercover personnel from the drug task force to respond as he maintained surveillance of Davis. When all the personnel arrived, the detectives took Davis by surprise and arrested him without incident.
It is not clear if Davis knew someone in Columbia County or was just travelling through to another destination. Davis was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on an out of state warrant for murder with no bond.
“Sergeant Meyers’ keen eye and the excellent relationship we have with our partnering agencies are responsible for this dangerous felon’s safe capture.” Sheriff Mark Hunter said, “This is a great example of the outstanding work done by your Sheriff’s Office daily.”
