On January 8, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Detectives arrested Dwight Tyre III, 23 on an arrest warrant for Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child.
Earlier in the day Detectives requested the arrest warrant based on the evidence compiled in this case thus far. Once the arrest warrant was ordered, the bondsman was notified and arranged for Tyre to surrender himself to detectives at the Columbia County Detention Facility. The warrant was served without incident.
Tyre was booked on one count of Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child with no bond.
The investigation continues.
UPDATE 2 Infant at the Heart of Abuse Case Dies
On January 6, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was notified shortly after 4 pm that the infant had died. Out of respect for the family an immediate update was not given affording the family time to relay this information to extended family and friends.
Earlier that day Detectives executed search warrants at the home at 208 SW Wren Ct and on the vehicle used to transport the baby to the hospital as part of this on-going investigation.
An autopsy is scheduled and will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Detectives are still gathering facts and are coordinating with the State Attorney regarding additional charges.

UPDATE 1 Detectives Investigate Cause of Baby’s Injuries
Following the interview with the mother of the infant, Molly Hill, she was allowed to leave the Sheriff’s Operations Center to go to the hospital to be with her child.
Detectives interviewed Dwight Tyre III and it was revealed that Tyre caused the injuries to the child. He was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Child Abuse and Felony Battery. Tyre was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility with no bond.
The baby is listed in critical condition at a Gainesville hospital.

(Original) Detectives Investigate Cause of Baby’s Injuries
On Tuesday, January 5, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a seriously injured baby that had been brought into the Lake City Medical Center for treatment by the baby’s mother and her boyfriend.
Deputies were called to the hospital due to the injuries of an 11 month old baby. It was reported by hospital staff that the baby was unresponsive and having difficulty breathing when brought in by the mother, Molly Hill, 19 and her boyfriend Dwight Tyre, 23.
Detectives were called to the scene and assumed the investigation. The baby was flown from Lake City Medical Center to a Gainesville hospital for further treatment and the condition is not known at the time of this release.
This is an active and on-going investigation.
