On Wednesday, November 4, a Lake City man is in jail following a vehicle pursuit which ended with a single car crash. The driver fled the scene and was captured by deputies after a foot chase.
The incident began as deputies from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office were looking for a vehicle in connection to a possible abduction. Shortly after 1 pm, deputies spotted the vehicle at a convenience store off west U.S. 90 and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled leading deputies on a short pursuit which ended when the suspect’s vehicle failed to negotiate a turn at Lake City Ave and Wilks Ln and crashed into a fence.
The driver, Lawrence Woods Sr. 47 fled from the scene and was captured by deputies a short distance away. The passenger, the adult victim of false imprisonment, was uninjured.
Woods was arrested on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated charge, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, and false imprisonment. He was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility with no bond.
