On Tuesday, July 28, at approximately 10:30 am, a Columbia County Deputy Sheriff was involved in a shooting at 4204 SW Pinemount Rd in the unincorporated county area.
Deputies were called to the address due to a landlord/tenant dispute. When the Deputies arrived and approached the suspect, Charles Schoener, 72 who was sitting in his vehicle, he started the vehicle and accelerated rapidly toward the deputies and citizens that were standing in the yard. Corporal Randy Harrison fired his issued service pistol at the suspect striking him in the upper torso.
The suspect was flown to Shands Hospital in Gainesville for treatment, where he is listed in stable condition. No Deputies or citizens were injured in the confrontation.
Per Sheriff’s Office policy Corporal Harrison will be placed on administrative leave while the investigation is conducted by CCSO, FDLE and the State’s Attorney’s Office.
The Deputies involved were Corporal Randy Harrison a 17 year veteran and Deputy Gary Cole a 9 year veteran.
This is an active and on-going investigation.
