On Monday, April 20, Sheriff Mark Hunter presented two deputies with the Distinguished Service Award for their heroic actions which resulted in saving a life during a house fire.
On November 7, 2014, Corporal Sean Sikes and Deputy Shayne Foote, both assigned to the Patrol Division were dispatched to an address in the county to conduct a welfare check. When they arrived, the discovered the house was on fire and they had to break in to rescue the resident, who was still inside the home. After carrying the resident to safety, they fought the fire until Columbia County Fire Department arrived.
“These deputies did an outstanding job”, Sheriff Mark Hunter said. “Their decisive actions saved a life and made this entire community proud”.
