On Monday, April 20, Sheriff Mark Hunter gave three members of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Citizen Service Unit commendations for their exceptional work with the agency’s Crime Scene Unit.
Mr. Ronnie Ash, Mr. James Grimes, and Mr. Jason Massey are civilian volunteers that have received specialized training and work alongside the Crime Scene Detective processing crime scenes.
On June 29, 2014, the Crime Scene Unit was called out to a burglary at a local school. After eight hours of processing the scene and collecting evidence, the suspect was identified. This is just one example of the many crime scenes these men have assisted on, rivaling the results of full time paid forensic technicians.
Sheriff Mark Hunter said, “I am extremely proud of all the CCSO volunteers and especially these men. They are a hidden gem of the Sheriff’s Office, saving the taxpayers upward of $100,000 annually.”
