The investigation into the homicide of a 16 year old is continuing and additional information is now available.
It has been determined that Nicole Kornegay, 11 assisted her 15 year old sister, Ariel in the commission of the crime and has also been arrested and charged with premeditated murder. The parents, Keith Kornegay, 37 and Misty Kornegay, 33 both have been arrested and charged with Child Neglect for failing to properly supervise the children.
The 3 year old is in the custody of DCF. The investigation continues

(Original release) Detectives Investigate Shooting
On Monday, January 5 at approximately 10:00 pm Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to 1205 Sophie Dr. in reference to a report of a person being shot. Once on scene the deputies discovered a 16 year old male deceased with a suspected gunshot wound on the living room floor.
The investigation was initiated when a White Springs Police Officer contacted Columbia County Dispatch after encountering two female juveniles in the city of White Springs that live at the above address in Columbia County. While talking with the juveniles they informed him of a shooting at their residence.
Based on the preliminary investigation it is believed that earlier in the evening, the 15 year old sister of the deceased retrieved a handgun from their parents’ bedroom and used it to shoot her brother. Also present in the home at the time of the shooting were her 11 and 3 year old female siblings.
Misty “Ariel” Renee Kornegay, 15 was arrested and taken to Columbia County Detention Facility where she was booked on one count of premeditated murder with no bond.
The parents of the children, who were out of town during the incident, have been notified.
This investigation is ongoing and active.
