The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, along with other law enforcement agencies in the area have begun gearing up for this year’s Law Enforcement Torch Run®. Friday, January 31, we will be outside Publix accepting donations for the Florida Special Olympics Summer Games.
The torch run is scheduled for April 9th at 9:30 a.m. starting at the DOT offices on S Marion Ave, ending at Memorial Stadium. Join us as we support the Special Olympics , an extremely worthwhile and life changing event for everyone involved.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run® is an annual event where law enforcement officers from over 300 Florida agencies participate in the state-wide torch run to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Florida. Each year, over 5,000 officers carry the torch on a 1500-mile relay through 66 counties in Florida.
Funds are generated through contributions from individuals and businesses along the way and through sales of the popular Torch Run T-shirts and caps.
Our local torch run is part of the interstate event held prior to Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games. The intrastate torch relay starts at the end of March and will culminate at the Opening Ceremonies, where officers from around the state join together to bring the Flame of Hopeâ„¢ into the stadium.
