On Monday, April 1, 2013, two Columbia County men were arrested by Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Detectives on burglary and theft charges.
On March 28, 2013, the victim reported to deputies that his home was burglarized while he was out of town. Numerous items of value were stolen to include televisions, DVD players, a Go-Kart and various other tools and equipment. Deputies were able to quickly identify Brandon Henry Smith as a suspect.
On April 1, 2013, Deputies attempted to make contact with Smith at a residence he was staying at off Lake Jeffery Rd. Smith attempted to flee out of a back window when deputies arrived. Smith was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.
Detective Keith Spradley was able to determine that Smith had sold one of the stolen televisions to an acquaintance a few days after the burglary. Additionally, it was found that Smith and his landlord, Jimmy Kicklighter, had sold some of the stolen property at a local pawn shop. Kicklighter was also present when the burglary occurred.
Detectives are actively working this investigation and hope to recover the remaining stolen property. Both suspects were arrested without incident and booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility.
